Oklahoma City woman faces assault, DUI charges

Oklahoma City police say an officer was cruising on SW 22nd Street when he saw a vehicle that looked like one that had been reported earlier. Officials believed the driver might be drunk.

The suspect began speeding away, however, police said, exceeding 75 mph at times. The eastbound vehicle ran the stop sign at SW 22 and Western and then headed down a gravel road, the officer reported. He saw the car then slam into a rock. The 25-year-old driver was taken into custody after she reportedly struggled with officers. She's charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and assault and battery on a police officer.

Officials said that after the woman crashed her car, she attempted to drive off, but additional police officers arrived on the scene. She got out of her car but struggled against officers as they tried to take her into custody.

After she was placed inside a police car, she began hitting her head against the vehicle. When officers tried to stop her, she allegedly hit one of them in the head with her knee.

Clearly, the allegations are serious ones.

A DUI conviction can result in jail time, fines, loss of driving privileges and more. A conviction can also mean future problems finding jobs or affordable car insurance.

Those facing similar accusations should decline to speak with police and prosecutors before talking over the evidence and charges with a criminal defense attorney experienced in DUI defense. Contact Oklahoma City's Derryberry & Naifeh, LLP, for more information.
